چکیده

The coupled atmosphere-ocean system defines the environment we live. The research of this complex, nonlinear and multiscale system is not only scientifically challenging but also practically important. We consider a coupled atmosphere-ocean model, which involves hydrodynamics, thermodynamics and nonautonomous interaction at the air-sea interface. First, we show that the coupled atmosphere-ocean system is stable under the external fluctuation in the atmospheric energy balance relation. Then, we estimate the atmospheric temperature feedback in terms of the freshwater flux, heat flux and the external fluctuation at the air-sea interface, as well as the earth’s longwave radiation coefficient and the shortwave solar radiation profile. Finally, we prove that the coupled atmosphere-ocean system has time-periodic, quasiperiodic and almost periodic motions, whenever the external fluctuation in the atmospheric energy balance relation is time-periodic, quasiperiodic and almost periodic, respectively. Stochastic Dynamics of a Coupled Atmosphere Ocean Model

The investigation of the coupled atmosphere-ocean system is not only scientifically challenging but also practically important. We consider a coupled atmosphere-ocean model, which involves hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, and random atmospheric dynamics due to short time influences at the air–sea interface. We reformulate this model as a random dynamical system. First, we have shown that the asym...

Research on Global Warming Prediction by using the High-Resolution Atmosphere-Ocean Coupled Model

of the coupled atmosphere-ocean coupled model have been conducted in this year. Several results are presented. First, detection of extreme events in a near-term climate prediction has been investigated, because we think that the nearterm prediction on the global warming becomes more and more important. It is demonstrated that a number of a hot summer day will increase. Secondly, a hindcast expe...

Analytical Prototypes for Ocean–Atmosphere Interaction at Midlatitudes. Part I: Coupled Feedbacks as a Sea Surface Temperature Dependent Stochastic Process*

Effects of ocean–atmosphere feedback processes and large-scale atmospheric stochastic forcing on the interdecadal climate variability in the North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans are examined in a simple midlatitude ocean–atmosphere model. In the ocean, the authors consider a linearized perturbation system with quasigeostrophic shallow-water ocean dynamics and a sea surface temperature (SST) ...

The effect of ocean dynamics in a coupled GCM simulation of the Last Glacial Maximum

General circulation models (GCMs) of the climate system are powerful tools for understanding and predicting climate and climate change. The last glacial maximum (LGM) provides an extreme test of the model’s ability to simulate a change of climate, and allows us to increase our understanding of mechanisms of climate change. We have used a coupled high resolution ocean–atmosphere GCM (HadCM3) to ...

Decadal variability and predictability in themidlatitude ocean { atmosphere

The coupled ocean{atmosphere interaction and predictability associated with the tropical El Ni~ no phenomenon has motivated researchers to seek analogous phenomena in the midlatitudes as well. Are there midlatitude coupled ocean{atmosphere modes? Is there signiicant predictability in the midlatitudes? The authors address these questions in the broader context of trying to understand the mechani...
